The harvest begins long before coffee reaches the hands of those who enjoy it. In the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serranía del Perijá, producer families begin preparing from the flowering stage, observing changes in the climate, the behavior of their crops, and the conditions of the territory.

For the 2026–2027 harvest, changes in flowering periods and weather conditions present new challenges. The harvest is expected to be longer and take place across different harvesting periods, making it necessary to maintain constant observation and adapt practices to what is happening on each farm.

In response to these challenges, ANEI supports producer families in observing, learning, and preparing, with the aim of strengthening their ability to adapt to the conditions of each production cycle.

**Caring for the soil and water means caring for the future of coffee**

We know that the quality and continuity of a harvest begin with the conditions in which coffee grows. That is why, as part of our support for producer families, we pay close attention to soil care and water management, two fundamental elements for the health of crops and the resilience of production systems.

Current climate conditions present new challenges. During periods of lower rainfall, preserving soil moisture is important to support fruit development. In this context, farming systems with trees and vegetation play a fundamental role: they help regulate temperature, retain moisture, and create favorable conditions for coffee.

At ANEI, we promote and strengthen this knowledge alongside producer families, recognizing that every territory has its own conditions and that practices must respond to them.

Growing coffee also means living alongside other forms of life

In ANEI’s coffee farms, coffee does not grow in isolation. Shade trees, vegetation, and the organisms that inhabit these spaces are part of a system in which each element has a role to play.

Maintaining this diversity helps create more favorable conditions for the crop and strengthens the territory’s ability to respond to periods of high temperatures, lower water availability, and other climate-related changes.

Preparing also means caring for the crop as a whole

A longer and more fragmented harvest also requires constant attention to crop conditions. In this context, timely monitoring for pests allows action to be taken before their impact increases, helping protect coffee development.

The coffee berry borer is one of the main challenges. That is why producer families continuously collect affected, green, ripe, overripe, and fallen coffee cherries, reducing the spaces where this pest can continue reproducing.

This work is complemented by monitoring areas with higher pest presence and support in the use of alternative biological management, such as Beauveria bassiana, according to the conditions of each farm.

For ANEI, this monitoring is part of a way of supporting production from the origin: understanding what is happening in each territory in order to strengthen the capacities of producer families and respond in a timely manner to the challenges of each harvest.

From caring for the territory to coffee quality

Crop management, soil and water care, pest monitoring, and the decisions made by families throughout the production cycle are all part of the same system. Each of these actions influences the conditions in which the fruit develops and, ultimately, the outcome of the harvest.

It is this integrated view of the territory that gives meaning to ANEI’s approach and to our vision of regenerative agriculture: producing coffee while strengthening the natural and human conditions that make its continuity possible.

The future of coffee is also cultivated at origin

At ANEI, the knowledge of producer families, our support, and care for the territory come together to respond to the challenges of each harvest and strengthen more resilient production systems.

Because the origin of a coffee goes far beyond a farm. It is reflected in how we care for the soil and water, how we live alongside biodiversity, and how we adapt to the conditions of each territory.

This is part of the story behind every ANEI coffee: a living origin where people, crops, and territory are part of the same system.
