Coffee from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serranía del Perijá is accustomed to traveling long distances to reach those who enjoy it in different parts of the world. But this time, its journey was different.
As part of an initiative led by our client and valued partner, Café William, 205,000 kilograms of ANEI organic coffee embarked on a journey from Santa Marta, Colombia, to Montreal, Canada, aboard the Neoliner Origin, a cargo ship that uses wind power as its primary source of propulsion.
For ANEI, this export represents much more than a new logistics operation. It is an opportunity to continue advancing our commitment to a more sustainable value chain, exploring with our partners alternatives that help reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation and deliver our producers' coffee to different parts of the world in a more responsible way.
From Origin to Transport with Purpose
It all begins long before the coffee arrives at the port. The coffee that ANEI contributes to this initiative comes from producers in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serranía del Perijá, territories where Indigenous and farming families cultivate coffee using responsible agricultural practices, in harmony with nature and committed to organic coffee production.
Now, this coffee continues its journey to international markets aboard the Neoliner Origin, whose large sails harness the power of the wind. This alternative allows us to reduce our dependence on the fuels used by conventional ships and explore new ways to make maritime transport more sustainable, taking our commitment to caring for the land beyond the farm.
205 tons of coffee that carry a story of origin
Each big bag traveling aboard the Neoliner Origin represents much more than just a volume of coffee. It carries the work of farming families, the knowledge passed down from generation to generation, and the practices that make it possible to cultivate coffee while caring for natural resources.
As a producers' organization, ANEI works to strengthen a production model that combines quality, sustainability, and care for the land. That's why, when our coffee leaves Colombia, part of the history of the communities that produce it travels with it.
Innovation is also part of our commitment to origin
For ANEI, sustainability doesn't end when the coffee leaves the farm. Our commitment to the land also means seeking new opportunities and supporting initiatives that allow our producers' coffee to reach the world in an increasingly responsible way.
The relationship between Café William and ANEI has allowed us to connect the work of our producers with consumers and international markets, while joining forces on initiatives that seek to generate positive changes throughout the coffee value chain. This experience reminds us that taking coffee further also means continuing to build new ways of doing things, always with a vision of sustainability and quality, but above all, putting the people who make each cup possible at the center.
